Episode 6 - Monaque

With over 20 releases in a little over a year, Monaque are now coming into their own as a production outfit to watch out for in 2010 and beyond. From playing a live set in front of 30,000 people on the main stage of the famous Kazantip festival to DJing at Cream Russia with the likes of John Digweed and Pete Tong, and appearing at New Yorks Mansion (M2), Cielo and Sullivan Rooms with DJ T, they are always pushing their sound no matter how big or small the venue.

With over 20 years DJing experience between the two of them and with a residency at the most respected club in Russia, Arma17, a weekly FM radio show to an audience of more than a million people and a monthly show on Friskyradio, in a very short time the guys have built quite a fan base. Having produced everything from tech-house for Stripped to progressive house for Sudbeat, from techno for Vapour to deep house for Forensic, all their tracks sound a bit different but they never lack in quality.

One thing that's always been interesting is that their music is so universal, one track can be played by John Digweed while another will be supported by Luciano, and the third will be heard in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo and Sasha.

With 2010 just beginning, they already have ten tracks scheduled for release, including two vinyl releases, forthcoming tracks on Renaissance and Sudbeat and by the end of the year we can expect a lot of surprises including a high profile mix compilation.

With Monaque a guest at breakoutaudios Miami label showcase it was only fitting that they were the next on our podomatic list.

Rob Small has become a well known figure on the Electronic Music scene, and over the past 18 month's, he has played alongside some of the best in the in industry, such as Matthias Tanzmann, Jamie Jones, Steve Mac, K-Klass, Mike Monday, King Roc & Tim Sheridan at events & clubs such as Es Paradis Ibiza, Back To Basics Leeds, Very Very Wrong Indeed, The Mint Club, Space Leeds, & My House.

At just 19 years old, Rob started his own event, called 'Friction', at none other than Leeds most infamous club, 'The Mint Club', which at the time was home of the legendary 'Back To Basics', and also 'Asylum & Technique', and now the home of the mammoth Techno event, 'System'.
His event has been to the four corners of the UK, and has taken the roof off countless event's time & time again, and was started primarily to showcase the up & coming talent that the Leeds Electronic Music Scene had to offer.

As a result of this, Rob was featured in July 2008's Traffic magazine, for his efforts with his brand, which lead him to the position he is now with Breakout Audio, as in September 2008 he was asked to come on Board the label, which took Rob's career to the next Level...

Having found inspiration in the Label, Rob developed his sound: Deep, Tech House with an infectious groove, and his dj set's have seen him devastate many a dancefloor.

December 2008 was the turning point in Rob's career as a producer, which saw his debut EP 'Torment', get signed by Oscar P of Open Bar Music in the States, to his side Label 'Selektor Music', since then Rob has a string of release's set for 2009 on Labels such as 'Love Hertz Germany', 'Benthic Records Portugal', and remix projects also, & his forthcoming releases are gaining great support throughout.

Rob currently has forthcoming gig's at 'Eden' in Ibiza, 'Tug' in Italy, and a busy Schedule in th UK, not to mention constant touring with the label.

Episode 3 - Deepchild

Touring top billing dj set along-side the likes of Richie Hawtin and Green Velvet (at the massive EXIT Festival, Serbia) Jeff Mills (Tribal Sessions in Leeds), Jesse Rose, Dixon and Sebo K (for Jesse's "Made to Play" monthly at Berlin's legendary Panorama Bar), M.A.N.D.Y (Watergate, Berlin), Ewan Pearson and WIll Saul (SONAR, Barcelona) to remix work for techno superstars, Booka Shade (voted best act and best record label, Get Physical, in dance bible IDJ last year), there's much that can be said for this genre-mashing producer.

If the increasingly demanding international schedule of weren't enough (try playing Germany and then Kuala Lumpur in the space of 4 days!), a string of highly successful 12"s on labels and remixes last year have well and truly solidified Deepchild's reputation as a serious 'contender' in the saturated international dance-music community.

London, Berlin, Tokyo, California, Vancouver, Cologne, Manchester, Leeds, Serbia, Kuala Lumpur and more have all featurer in this years extensive dj/live touring menu, with residencies in homeland of Sydney (AU) at Bread and Butter and KINK fleshing out time between quarterly European tours and a busy studio schedule. When not turning the dials in his studio in Bondi, Sydney, deepchild bunkers down for extended production duties in his unofficial 'second home' of various studios in Berlin (where much of his label-community and European booker are based).

From 'big-label' original releases for labels like US Om Records, remix work for legendary producers New Order, Booka Shade (Get Physical), deeper cuts for Freerange Records (UK) and Future Classic, and serious tech-weapons for BEEF, Affin (run by Kompakt's Joakim Spieth), Dieb and Detroit's own MDEX Records, a steady stream of bouncy, jackin' minimal sounds have insured deepchild has remained one of Australia's most in-demand producers. Hipp-e, Robert Babicz, Tigerstripes, Jimpster and Luomo have all leant their remix credits to deepchild 12"s....

The journey has been a long and sonically expansive one. Recent dj support from the likes of Justin Martin, Mattias Tanzman and Hipp-e, sits solidly against the proclamations of respected music journal, The Wire, who went as far as to proclaim that this sound was "as sexy and addictive as new-dub electronica gets". From quirky, stripped-back techno to deep dub explorations, deepchild has proven a robust producer and highly repsected dj and live-performer.

When Stereo-Heaven (the biggest dj store in Essen, Germany) found that their biggest selling tech-house record was infact written in a small share-house studio in Sydney's Inner-West (deepchild's "No Disgrace", on Future Classic), they took the time to make special mention of what is indicative of deepchild's head-turning appeal:
"over here in my hometown in germany, we really love "no disgrace"!! it's also by far the best selling record in our new local shop, too...from deep or tech house to minimal djs, hiphop and electronica fans - everybody is into that 3-tracker...really an amazing 12" you've created!"
Freerange Record's 'tech-house institution', Milton Jackson, phrased is rather more sucsinctly, "Oh My God. I think you are my new hero"
